One of the most exciting features of the 103rd Street Sports Complex is its versatility. Our 0.5-mile course is designed to be challenging and fast in both directions, offering completely different racing experiences on the same asphalt.

Clockwise (CW Standard Direction)

Running clockwise is the traditional configuration for many of our club races and major events. In this direction, racers tackle the legendary banked Monza corner as a high-speed exit, carrying massive momentum onto the 1,000-foot straightaway. It rewards drivers who can master late-braking zones and maintain precision through the technical infield sections.

Counter-Clockwise (CCW Reverse Direction)

Switching to counter-clockwise completely transforms the flow of the track. In this layout, the 1,000-foot straightaway leads directly into the Monza corner, creating a thrilling, high-speed entry into the banking. This configuration tests a driver’s courage and aerodynamic setup, making it a favorite for those who love high-speed drafting and aggressive cornering.

The "Chicane" Option (Clockwise)

During specific club races and national events, we utilize the Chicane configuration in the clockwise direction. This series of quick, tight turns adds a technical “S-curve” to the lap, rewarding drivers who can master heavy braking and nimble steering. It is designed to test chassis setup and driver agility, preventing the track from becoming purely a “motor” track.

The Oval Layout (Short Course)

The Oval configuration is a specialized short-track layout. Unlike the full road course, the oval utilizes a specific bypass at one end of the facility. This creates a much tighter, traditional oval shape that eliminates the large banked corners and the technical infield.

This configuration can be run in both clockwise and counter-clockwise directions, emphasizing door-to-door racing, drafting, and perfect corner exits on a shortened, high-intensity loop.

The Asphalt Oval

For those who live for “turning left,” the track can be configured as a dedicated Asphalt Oval. By bypassing the technical infield, racers utilize the two main straightaways with oval configuration that can be used Clockwise & Counter-Clockwise Oval: Depending on the series (such as the Florida Oval Asphalt Series), the oval can be run in either direction. This configuration is a favorite for specialized oval karts and provides some of the closest side-by-side racing in the region.

Public Practice Etiquette & Safety

The 103rd Street Sports Complex is proud to be open and free to the public for practice from 8:00 AM to sunset, seven days a week, except on Club Race days and other Special Race events. However, please be advised that during these public hours, the track is entirely unmanaged. All users must assume full responsibility for their own safety and strictly adhere to all established karting safety protocols, including the use of proper protective gear and helmets. It is the responsibility of every driver to self-monitor, remain vigilant of other participants on the track, and maintain a safe, professional environment for everyone on the asphalt.

To ensure a safe and productive practice environment for all drivers, of all skill levels, we ask that parents and racers follow these community guidelines:

  • Share the Track: Since track time is not scheduled, please be considerate of others waiting to practice. We recommend limiting your sessions to reasonable lap counts so that everyone has equal opportunity to get on the track.

  • Know Your Surroundings: Always be responsible and evaluate the karts currently on the track before heading out. Consider the speed and horsepower differences between classes (such as LO206 vs. high-horsepower 2-cycles) to avoid dangerous closing speeds.

  • Respect Experience Levels: Our track is used by everyone from “Kid Kart” beginners to veteran “Legends.” Please be mindful of a driver’s experience level; give newer racers plenty of space and avoid aggressive passing during public practice sessions.

  • Safety First: Always ensure you are wearing the proper safety gear and that your kart is in safe working order before entering the track.

  • Check the Layout: The configuration and direction are typically set based on the upcoming scheduled race.

  • Directional Safety: Always confirm the “Track Direction” with others at the track or the NFKC schedule online before entering the track.

  • Consistency: To ensure safety during public practice, the track configuration remains the same for all drivers on the track at that time.
